Gagnepainia thoreliana

Gagnepainia is a rare monophyletic genus of ginger composed of only three species, G. harmandii, G. godefroyi and G. thoreliana. Gagnepainia is closely related to Globba as demonstrated by their similar yet distinct flower forms. This ginger is dormant during winter months. It produces foot long stems with creamy inflorescences that emerge before the foliage. Gagnepainia thoreliana is native to Thailand and is traditionally used medicinally to treat inflammation.

 

Gagnepainia thoreliana is rare in Thailand this is likely the first time it is being offered for sale in the US. Limited supply.
